Post on the Persuaders #2

In this episode, we learned more about how companies try to appeal to pop culture and teens. Teenagers influence what advertisements companies choose to make, because there was a shift in how children are raised.  Teens seem to be growing up quicker, or at least want to grow up quicker.  The rise of midriffs and companies designing teens clothes to look more similar to adult's sparked this change.

As I advance into my teen years, I begin to wonder how life was different growing up in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.  There weren't any smartphones, and no one had social media, so trends would spread through magazines and television.  Now, celebrities greatly influence what trends are. Many "trendy" clothes are even priced over 100 dollars. Because our parents were raised in a different time, many don't understand the trends and the need to follow them.  They also comment on our ripped jeans and many clothes that teens wear today.  I think they should learn to understand the new trends and how people treat them.  If girls want to show midriff, let them show midriff instead of thinking they'll get kidnapped or distract guys.  Following trends is a huge part of teenage culture today and I think parents should know that.
