Miss Representation

The documentary Miss Representation made me realize how much women are objectified and sexualized in the world, and especially in the media. However, I think it has improved somewhat over the years. Starting in the 80s, women wearing barely any clothes were put on ads to encourage men to buy a certain company's product.  Luckily, I think objectifying women to sell a product has slowly declined through the 2010s. I've seen less and less ads that show women dressed in only a bikini like running on the beach. Many ads that show women now focus on empowering women and saying women can be powerful instead of turning them into just an object used to attract men. This has changed the way society looks and treats women.  If they see a woman not living up to the "beauty standards" they are seen as ugly.  These advertisements have taught us that the only beautiful women are those who have the perfect body and a beautiful face, when that isn't necessarily the only things women are.  However, I have been seeing more ads that show women that don't fit the traditional American "beauty standards".  More people of color, women with disabilities, women of all ages, and women without 10 pounds of makeup on their face, ect.
show that any woman can be beautiful and should be accepted.   Though it has gotten better over the years, I don't think the situation is completely solved.
